Study of the Names of God and Study of Personal Names - 6 weeks (Sept. 11 - Oct 16)
While learning about personal names, students will research with a variety of tools including books, online resources, and family interviews. Students will have the opportunity to share orally and/or personally-created artistic displays about their name meaning, and possibly, their heritage. In our study of names of God, we will focus on understanding the name, including the history, context, and connotation of it; connecting to the name, considering how it applies to us today; and demonstrating understanding of the name through art, presentation, or other demonstration. We will use multiple resources, with the Bible being most important, but also with special attention to books by Ann Spangler including Praying the Names of God.
Practical Economics - 7 weeks (Oct. 23. - Dec. 11)
In this class we will learn about Budgeting, Investing, Risk Taking, Entrepreneurship, and more! Students will learn through articles, conversation, potentially a guest speaker, and also through hands-on experience in a special Market Day during which they can present their goods and services in exchange for real money! In addition to gaining hands-on entrepreneurial experience, students will have the opportunity to earn class “money” through class chores and can then shop in a class store. Most importantly, we will investigate what the Bible says about wealth and money, including the difference between the love of money and use of money, tithing, and God's provision. Deuteronomy 8:18 will be our key Scripture: "But you shall remember [with profound respect] the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He wore (solemnly promised) to your fathers, as it is this day.”

The Bronze Bow - Literature Study & Related Projects - 14 weeks (Jan. 8 - Apr. 16)
We will use a Christian study guide to study vocabulary, answer reading comprehension questions, and think more deeply about the story and characters from a Christian worldview. You may want to have your child read the entire book before Sept, but we will read it more carefully during the semester. Your child will be expected to complete reading assignments and some workbook pages on his/her own and then we will do some together or at least discuss the homework answers. We will research the historical background of the book, especially the Roman Empire and Jewish customs as well as other topics suggested by our reading, and add map studies, writing, art projects, and perhaps some acting and movie-making.
